Come see us at the Witte Museum where we'll be building another coracle on-site! The frame will be built from freshly gathered willow, and a new cowhide will be prepared for the little boat frame. A.D. 2010 November7-8Austin Celtic Festival : Our Iron Age display is expanding! Come see the our carnyx: the war trumpet used by the ancient Celts in battle. We have also recently built a true hide-covered coracle. Sure to be a great event! Check out the festival website: www.austincelts.org/festival.October1-3Iron Age group campout : We'll be camping at a nearby State Park. Not necessarily an Immersion Event, but rather a weekend for us get together as a group. The park has a small lake where anyone who wants to try the coracle is more than welcome to, but be prepared to get wet! We'll still have some period recipies and practice various skills. Good food, good company, good park, sure to be an awesome weekend. If you would like more information, please contact us.August21-22Roundhouse Construction Weekend II : We'll complete the contruction of the roundhouse that we began two weeks earlier. Any wattling that needs to be completed can be done here and we'll get it ready for transport.August7-8Roundhouse Construction Weekend I : We are building our first roundhouse with local materials and proven methods. This is actually a "portable roundhouse" made for taking to demos and fairs to aid in teaching about how the ancient Britons lived.June19-20Open House Camping Event : A new site in Conroe, Texas. It's a fundraiser event to raise money for the new kitchen, open to all the groups that either currently use the site or are thinking about it. Games, demos, and other things are being planned, and a pot-luck feast on Saturday night. It's an informal thing, so garb/costuming isn't mandatory. So grab some people, bring your gear, and let's all do some show-and tell. Plus it's a good reason to get out of the house for a day or two.May22Vista Ridge High School Latin Fair : Cedar Park, Texas. This is their first year putting on a Latin Fair! It's being held to raise money to send students to the National Latin convention in Fargo, North Dakota this summer. Come out and help support this cause! From 11am to 3pm.April10Tejeda Middle School History Fair : San Antonio, Texas. Come see us, along with other groups like Legio VIII (Romans!), as well as Dark Ages groups, ACW groups, Native american groups, and a host of modern militaria, including an Air Cav group that flies in a helicopter and lands on the football field.March27-28San Antonio Highland Games : San Antonio, Texas. See Us and the Romano-Brits in a friendly setting in our "village" at the southwest corner of the festival. Meet with a visiting documentary photgrapher to capture us in Iron Age and Roman kit.September 8 September 1 The Whole 9 Yards : Location: Austin, Texas at the Howard Johnson, 11:30 - 1 PM. Seminar on many aspects Iron Age textile production as shown through artifacts and experimental archaeology. This is presented to Lonestar Mensa Group at their annual celebration. This will include a powerpoint presentation and live demonstrations. Aside from Living History demos, there will be a children's area (with crafts, games, etc), a "sheep to sweater" demo from St. Brigid's Gate Farm (live sheep, spinning demo), a "Family History" booth, the Austin Celtic Association will have a booth, and of course, Live Music.Minor Event March 3 Explore UT: The Largest Open House in Texas : The University of Texas at Austin will will host its eighth annual Explore UT: The Biggest Open House in Texas. We'll be assisting the Department of Classics with their interactive exhibit: "Exploring the Ancient Celts." More than 30,000 visitors are expected to participate in a day of free hands-on activities, performances, demonstrations and lectures. Times are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.Minor Event February 24 Imperial Rome Exhibit : Over 400 artifacts from the extensive collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Florence, as well as loans from other leading Italian museums in Rome, Pompeii and Ostia Antica, illustrate the diverse lives of Romans, from emperors to common citizens." This exhibit will have it's debut at the Houston Museum of Natural Science this weekend and will be attended by several reenactment groups (Coritani, Legio IX, Legio VIII, Legio X and The Roman Way). 23 - 26A.D. 43 : This is a total immersion event for both Romans and Celts. Groups and individuals from accross the U.S. converge on this spot once a year for drills, battles, and Living History the way we love to do it!
